Independent reflection / Draft English translation

AI, Judgment &
Indifference

Paul Bogatir · A living reflection from the Happü archive

The danger is not the tool alone

Happü has been a place where I explore AI as well as music. I have used it for help with mixing, visual work and synthetic voices. The technology changed along the way, and so did my view of it.

What I find increasingly difficult is the volume of synthetic material produced without care or intention. It is not simply the use of AI that troubles me: it is indifference to the artistic process.

I sometimes imagine Andy Warhol working with AI-generated slop as an artistic material. That is speculation, of course, but it captures the question for me. What matters is not only what was generated but how it was selected, framed and given meaning.

AI can make us better at what we understand. It can also help us appear competent where we are not equipped to recognize the errors. A result can sound convincing without being true. This is why education, judgment, curiosity and the ability to recognize one’s limitations matter even more.
